Funding Our Future Campaign Kicks Off, Growing List of Partners

Washington, D.C.Funding Our Future will publicly kick off the campaign to strengthen America’s retirement security at a reception Tuesday evening and is announcing 21 new educational, executive, corporate, and associate partnerships. The campaign, initiated earlier this year, now has 31 partner organizations committed to educating policymakers and the public about why retirement security should be a top priority.

“Retirement policy is an area where there is nearly unanimous agreement on the need for action. Funding Our Future is poised to make this broad support clear to policymakers,” said Jason Grumet, president of the Bipartisan Policy Center. “Washington must find concrete, actionable solutions to the financial challenges faced by the American public.”

Retirement remains an uncertain prospect for too many Americans. Over 40 million private-sector workers lack basic access to workplace retirement plans. Millions more, including about 43 percent of Baby Boomers and Gen Xers, face the risk of outliving their savings. Social Security, the bedrock for many workers in retirement, faces trust fund depletion in about 15 years if policymakers fail to act, a fate that would be deeply harmful to those reliant on the program.

“I’ve spent my entire career working with people across America to prepare them for retirement, and I’ve seen their struggles up close,” said Ric Edelman, executive chairman and founder of Edelman Financial Services. “Moving the needle on retirement security is critical not just for workers today, but also for our children and grandchildren.”

Funding Our Future educates the public and policymakers about these challenges, stresses the need for action, and raises awareness about an array of potential solutions worthy of consideration. Through public events, a compelling and informative website, an engaged membership, and partners with decades of experience in this area, the campaign will impact the national discourse and increase the attention paid to the pressing issues of insufficient savings and financial vulnerability in retirement.
